Two Bear Landing Fishing Stories

Salmon Thief

In june 2006, Bish N son had brought back Terry VanDyke of Kamloops and his crew from a very successful day of fishing. Laid out over the dock were lovely large halibut and salmon, one in particular was a beautiful shining 28lb spring. As the happy fishermen stood there admiring their handiwork, a huge, very pushy seal slapped up onto the dock, scooted between surprised bystanders and bee lined right over to that big salmon. He scooped it up and dove back into the water, neat as you please. There is something very wrong about this particular food chain event.

Big Catch

One day a few years ago, Monte, (household gopher, dockboy, garbage man, recycler and all round crazy guy) was fishing with his dad, Bill Heyman. Monte was jigging down with a treble hook when there was a sudden yank on his line. Judging by the drag we were pretty sure he had a bottom fish of some sort. He wound and wound and wound. Eventually, he brought the catch up to the boat and much to our astonishment, he had two, not one, but two cod hooked on one treble hook. This gives double header new meaning.

Big Catch (part 2)

That fishing tale happened back when Monte was six years old. He is now 16. Last summer he was out with his father again, trolling along, when yet again he snagged something on his line. This time there was only one fish but when all was said and done, that fish weighed out at 50 pounds. Now, his dad had caught the biggest fish a few years ago. It was so big he knew he would never get another bigger than that and he would hold the all time record for Two Bear Landing so he had it stuffed and hung on the wall. That fish was ......47.5 pounds! We ate the fifty pounder.
